PLAINFIELD, IL – Boil order has been issued for Plainfield’s water supply after E. coli is detected. This weekend, all Plainfield water towers and the ground storage tank will be inspected. Hydrants will also be flushed. For the time being, residents are advised not to drink the water without first boiling it. On Wednesday, E. coli was discovered in the town’s water supply, according to village officials. According to the alert, the bacteria can make you sick and are especially dangerous for people with weakened immune systems.
This affects approximately 43,000 people, including 25,000 students at 31 schools. Leaders in District 202 say that due to the situation, in-person classes may have to be canceled on Monday.
Families have been warned to brace themselves for the possibility. Residents are advised to boil water for 3 to 5 minutes before using it or to use bottled water: this includes drinking, making ice, brushing your teeth, and food preparation.
