Air Force Pilot killed In Runway Accident

DEL RIO, TX – The U.S. Air Force announced Friday that a pilot was killed and two others were injured in an accident at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas.

According to the Air Force, two T-38C Talon training planes were involved in an accident on the runway at about 10 am (CST) on Friday.  One pilot was killed instantly, while another was taken to the Val Verde Regional Medical Center in Del Rio.  A third pilot is in critical condition and has been airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

“Losing teammates is unbelievably painful and it is with a heavy heart I express my sincere condolences.  Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with our pilots involved in this mishap and their families.” said Colonel Craig Prather, commander of the 47th Flying Training Wing.

The Northrop T-38 jet has been in service with the United States Air Force since 1959 as is scheduled to be replace in 2021 by the Boeing T-7 Red Hawk.
