GLENDALE HEIGHTS, IL – A teen from Alsip, Illinois, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm.

According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney, on August 12, 2022, at approximately 8:30 pm, Nathan Gaytan, 16, and another unknown individual allegedly confronted the two victims on Army Trail Road.  During the confrontation, Gayton and the unknown individual allegedly pointed guns at the victims who then retreated from the scene.  Shortly after the incident, Gayton allegedly drove up and exited his vehicle and fired nine shots at the victims, with one of the victims being wounded in the arm and thigh.  According to the victims, Gayton then fled the scene.  Gayton was later arrested on August 18.

“It is alleged that for no reason whatsoever, Mr. Gaytan fired nine times at an innocent couple simply enjoying an evening stroll.  Regardless of the age of the accused, violent gun crimes will not be tolerated in DuPage County and will be aggressively prosecuted. I thank the Glendale Heights Police Department and MERIT for their outstanding work in identifying Mr. Gaytan as the person allegedly responsible for this unprovoked attack. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Joseph Lindt and Claudia Fantauzzo for their work in securing charges against this defendant,” Robert Berlin, DuPage County State’s Attorney, said in a statement.

A $500,000 dollar bond has been set for Gayton, who is expected back in court on September 16, 2022.
