EVANSTON, IL – A Chicago man has been charged in the attempted kidnapping of a woman in Evanston on Saturday.

Evanston Police said, on May 20, 2023, at approximately 9:45 am, James Saye, 28, of the 6100 block of North Seeley Ave, Chicago, IL, allegedly attempted to push an Evanston woman into his vehicle.

According to the victim, she was walking in the 600 block of University Place when she was allegedly approached by Saye, who then allegedly attempted to push her into a Ford Escape.  The victim was able to escape and reported the incident and a description of Saye to an Evanston police officer that was patrolling the area.

Two Evanston police officers in the area spotted a Ford Escape matching the description traveling southbound on Chicago Avenue at Clark Street.  When attempting to conduct a traffic stop, the Ford led police on a slow pursuit south on Chicago Avenue to South Boulevard before pulling over.  Officers took the driver, Saye, who was later identified by the victim, into custody without incident.

After an investigation by Evanston police, surveillance footage in the area of the crime scene captured the incident.  Saye is currently the only suspect in the case.

Saye has been charged with one felony count of attempted kidnapping, one felony count of aggravated fleeing and eluding, and various traffic violations.
