CHICAGO – A nurse has been charged with smuggling illegal narcotics into Cook County Jail for her boyfriend.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office said 34-year-old Joanna McCree, of Chicago, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a substance with intent to deliver. The Sheriff’s Police Street Crimes Suppression Unit said they had received information that McCree intended to smuggle illegal narcotics to her boyfriend who is being held in the jail. In a sting operation, investigators posing as drug dealers contacted McCree to arrange a meeting to provide her with drugs to smuggle to her lover in jail.

McCree was later taken into custody at her place of employment after meeting with investigators posing as drug dealers that provided her with what she believed to be illegal narcotics. McCree admitted that she was having a love affair with a man currently being held in Cook County Jail that she had met at the hospital where she worked.
Bond has been set for $75,000.
