Illinois State Senator Melinda Bush to Resign

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Democrat Illinois State Senator Melinda Bush (IL-31) announced that she will resign.  According to an announcement by State Senate Democrats, Bush’s resignation was presented in a letter of resignation Monday, effective on December 31, 2022.  Illinois law requires the seat be filled within 30 days and must be of the same political party.  Bush’s replacement will serve the rest of her term which ends January 11, 2023.  Bush’s replacement will be sworn in on January 2.

Barring a cloak room deal, eligible candidates must be a Democrat over the age of 18 who have lived within the district for a minimum of two years.  Resume and a short statement on their qualifications and any relevant experience should be sent to statesenateappointment@gmail.com by 10 am on Monday, January 2.
