CHICAGO – A man has been charged in the shooting of a 7-year-old boy who was on his way to church Sunday morning.
According to police, Kentrell Gayden, 22, has been charged with the attemped murder of a 7-year-old boy that was on his way to the Universal Community Church in the Roseland neighborhood.
Around 11:30 am on Sunday, the 7-year-old victim and his family were about to park their vehicle when they noticed Gayden allegedly breaking into their relative’s parked car. When Gayden was confronted he allegedly pulled a machine gun and fired on the family while they were in their vehicle. Police said the victim was shot in the leg and is expected to survive.
Heroic Chicago Police officers in the area responded to the shooting and arrested Gayden after a 40 minute chase.
Gayden is expected back in court Wednesday.
