CHICAGO – A man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a man in a Bronzeville shoe store in April.

According to police, Keantae Martin, 18, has been charged with first-degree murder for the murder of Damonte Robinson in the 4700 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue.

On April 23, Robinson’s girlfriend was driving him home when he abruptly asked her to pull over so he could confront someone over money.  Robinson, 23, exited the vehicle and entered the Bronzeville store around 1 pm and proceeded to confront the individual who owed him money.  Martin, a friend of the person who was arguing with Robinson, attempted to intervene by brandishing a weapon.  When Robinson attempted to exit the store, Martin allegedly shot him in the back.

On scene, police found Robinson facedown on the cement with two gunshot wounds in his back.  Robinson died at an area hospital.

Martin was later identified by surveillance video and a police officer that was familiar with his record.  Martin was taken into custody on Monday in Crown Point, Indiana and is being held without bail in Cook County.
