HIGHLAND PARK: 7 DEAD, 30 WOUNDED, SUSPECT ARRESTED

HIGHLAND PARK, IL – Suspected gunman in Independence Day shooting has been taken into custody.  Currently, seven people killed and thirty wounded.

According to police, the 21-year-old suspect was taken into custody without incident around 7 pm in Lake Forest, Illinois after being spotted by and pursued by City of North Chicago police.

Local police and the FBI identified the suspect as the main “person of interest” and cautioned residents that he could be armed and dangerous.  Police believe the suspect acted alone and no charges have been filed at this time.

Around 10:15 am, a gunman opened fire during an Independence Day parade from a commercial building rooftop wounding 30 and ultimately killing 7 people.  The wounded were taken to area hospitals and range in ages 8 to 85.  It has been estimated that 4 to 5 of the wounded are children.

Police are urging citizens that attended the parade to turnover any photos or video of the event.
