NAPERVILLE, IL – Naperville police gun down man armed with a hatchet Friday morning during a traffic stop.
According to police, an officer was conducting a routine traffic stop around 11 am near the intersection of Bond Street and McDowell Road when another vehicle pulled over and a man armed with a hatchet exited the vehicle and attempted to butcher the officer to death. The officer quickly drew his weapon and gunned down the criminal. The criminal was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police describe the criminal as a white male in his 20s. The officer involved in the shooting is a 22-year veteran of the Naperville Police Department.
