ORLAND PARK, IL – A Chicago man was arrested in Orland Park on Wednesday for obstructing police and having a loaded gun.

According to Orland Park Police, officers were watching a suspicious vehicle at 856 Orland Square Drive when they observed a Jeep driving at high speed.  The Jeep then parked two spaces from the suspicious vehicle the officers were watching.

Orland Park police officers then observed the Jeep driver place an object back into the vehicle and walk away.  Officers then approached the Jeep and discovered cannabis in one of the cup holders.

The driver of the Jeep returned to his vehicle about an hour later, in which the police officers asked the driver to exit his vehicle.  The driver refused to comply after several warnings from police.  Officers then forcibly broke the driver’s side window at which time the man exited the Jeep and was taken into custody.

According to police, the Jeep driver was identified as 23-year-old Chicago resident Matrice Smith.  Smith was allegedly carrying a loaded Springfield handgun inside a stylish Louis Vutton satchel bag.

According to the Illinois State Police, Smith does not have a CCL or FOID card.  Smith also has a felony conviction for aggravated battery to a police officer and multiple armed robberies.

Smith has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and obstructing a police officer.
