Orland Park: Chicago Man On Federal Probation Arrested For Purse Napping

ORLAND PARK, IL — A Chicago man on federal probation was arrested for stealing items from vehicles in Orland Park.

According to Orland Park police, officers responded to a vehicle burglary that occurred in the parking lot of Orland Square Mall on Sunday afternoon.  Police reports indicated that a man entered a vehicle and stole a purse.  The suspect then fled in a silver-colored Volkswagen.

Orland Park police issued an ABP on the Volkswagen which was later stopped going eastbound on 151 Street near Harlem Avenue.  Police identified the driver as 21-year-old Erik Baez of Chicago.

According to investigators, police were contacted by another victim who reported a phone missing from his car, which was later located inside Baez Volkswagen.

Baez was charged with two counts of burglary from a motor vehicle and is being held on a $20,000 bond.  Baez is expected back in court on January 27.

According to reports, Baez in on probation from a federal arrest by the United States Secret Service.
