WESTMONT, IL – Three men and a juvenile have been charged in the New Year’s Eve burglary of a car dealership in Westmont.
According to Westmont police, the robbery occurred around 4:30 a.m. on December 29 at the Laurel BMW dealership on Ogden Avenue. As police arrived on scene, the perpetrators fled in a vehicle. Responding officers opened fire on the fleeing vehicle wounding the juvenile driver.
Police from surrounding areas participated in the pursuit and arrested the suspects. Three guns were recovered from the vehicle, which was reported stolen on December 21 in Lake County.
“I caution any would-be car thieves that in DuPage County, this type of behavior will most certainly not be tolerated and if you commit such a crime here you will be quickly apprehended, charged and face an aggressive prosecution, regardless of age.” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement
Angel Martin, 23, Semaje Wheeler, 18, and Brian Garrett, 19 have been charge with two counts of armed violence, one count of burglary and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle. The wounded juvenile was taken to an area hospital.
Martin was ordered held on a $1 million bail, while Wheeler and Garrett have been ordered held on $750,000 bail.
Martin, Wheeler, and Garrett are expected in court on January 24.
