MANITOWOC, WI — A woman from Chicago was rescued on Monday after she fell through the ice on a lake in northern Wisconsin.

The 31-year-old woman was chasing after her dogs, who had run out onto the ice on Pigeon Lake, just south of Manitowoc about midday when she and her dogs broke through the ice.

In an attempt to save her, a 32-year-old New Holstein man used a kayak to paddle out to render aid before first responders arrived, but he fell though the ice.  Luckily, both the Good Samaritan and woman were able to get back onto solid ice before first responders arrived.  Both were taken to an area hospital.

According to the woman’s family, all dogs made it back to shore.
