Armed Robber Shot By Off-Duty Chicago Police Officer

CHICAGO – On Monday night an off-duty Chicago police officer shot an alleged armed robber.

A 25-year-old man armed with a gun approached the off-duty police officer in the 9200 block of South Phillips Avenue in the Calumet Heights area in an effort to rob him, according to police.

According to police, a gunfight erupted, and the suspect was shot in the lower extremities.

The suspect was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in stable condition.  The off-duty officer was not injured, and a weapon was discovered at the site.
