CHICAGO — Davion Fountain, 22, shot at his ex-partner after an altercation in Austin but miss and shot another man.
Prosecutors said Fountain originally denied firing three rounds while hanging from the passenger side window of his car on Oct. 13, killing 20-year-old Laquan Jernigan.
However, Fountain allegedly revealed later to authorities that he was the shooter. According to authorities, Jernigan was in another car with Fountain’s ex-partner and another individual buying narcotics in the 4800 block of West Crystal Street when he was shot in the chest.
Fountain informed police that he was retaliating after being fired at by someone in the other automobile.
Prosecutors claimed Fountain got out of a blue automobile, confronted his ex-partner in the other vehicle, opened the car door, and started arguing before the shooting. Prosecutors claimed Fountain ultimately slammed the door and returned to his car. He then reportedly drove back toward the other car and leaned out his car window before shooting.
According to authorities, the driver of the second car subsequently returned fire but did not hit anyone.
Fountain was detained in Bellwood on Monday, according to police.
Prosecutors claimed Fountain’s ex-partner recognized him in a picture array and in surveillance video from a gas station before the shooting, when Fountain was spotted wearing the same distinctive jacket featured in the murder tape.
Fountain attended Proviso West High School in Hillside, according to his counsel.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on January 4.
