CHICAGO — One Northwest Side Chicago community is so fed up with violence that it has hired its own private security to patrol the streets.
Armed private security guards might begin patrolling the Bucktown area as early as this week. The newly created Bucktown Neighbors Association details a proposal to engage P4 Security Solutions, a private security business located in Downers Grove, in a letter to homeowners.
According to the letter, an armed guard would patrol the region for 8 to 10 hours a day in a designated security vehicle between Armitage Avenue and North Avenue, and Winchester Avenue to Hermitage Avenue.
The initiative would seek to reduce an increase in local violence, such as carjackings, strong-armed robberies, and muggings. According to the original letter, the minimum cost of these protection services is $190,000 a year.
Residents are being asked to sign up for an annual charge to cover these expenditures.
There was now comment from the mayor.
