CHICAGO – Health officials have announced a syphilis outbreak in Roseland.

The outbreak is being investigated among older heterosexual men after five cases were confirmed in Roseland between September 4 and November 4.  All infected men reported having oral sex with female sex workers.

In 2020, 919 syphilis cases were reported in Chicago, a 13% increase from 2019.

In response to the outbreak, Roseland health officials are advising medical providers to offer more STD testing to sexually active patients.

CDPH provides free STI testing at its STI Specialty clinics, one of which is located in Roseland at 200 E. 115th St.

There was also a recent outbreak in Indiana.
