Calumet City, IL — A Calumet City police SUV cruiser was stolen while officers responded to an attempted carjacking on Tuesday.
A carjacking attempt was reported at a gas station off Sibley Road around 6:25 a.m., according to a Calumet City police. When officers arrived, four armed men fled in different directions. While officers searched the area, one of the suspects returned to the gas station and drove away in a marked police SUV.
According to Calumet City police, the suspect entered the Bishop Ford Freeway and exited near 99th and Green Streets, where he dumped the SUV and fled. The SUV cruiser was recovered by police via GPS tracking.
None of the suspects are in custody and no word if officers responsible for the stolen police vehicle will face disciplinary action.
