WAUKESHA, WI – A driver in a red SUV crashed through a Christmas parade in Waukesha, killing 5 people and injuring up to 40.
According to Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson a red SUV broke through police barriers and rammed into parade-goers, including a marching band. Thompson has not revealed the exact number of people killed, noting that police are in the process of notifying their next of kin.
Thompson did say one officer fired one shot at the vehicle.
Earlier, the police chief stated that his officers had located the suspect vehicle. Officers are seen in photos shared on social media approaching a red SUV parked in a driveway. The hood of the vehicle has been severely damaged, presumably as a result of the collision with the crowd.
A suspect is currently in custody.
