WOODRIDGE, IL — A DuPage County jury convicted a former Chicago man of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his girlfriend and will most likely serve a life sentence.
“This afternoon, a jury found Launden Luckett responsible for the brutal murder of Cecily Dickey. While their verdict cannot bring Cecily back to those who loved her, perhaps their finding will provide some measure of justice knowing the man responsible for her murder will face severe consequences for his actions.” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said.
On October 19, 2015, Woodridge police officers were conducting a well-being check when they discovered Cecily Dickey’s corpse in her apartment. According to police, she had been stabbed and suffocated several times. An investigation led officers to Launden Luckett, 33, who was already in detention on separate charges.
According to police reports, Dickey traveled to Chicago on Oct. 16 to pick up Luckett and bring him back to her apartment. The couple began to argue around 2 a.m., in which Luckett ended up stabbing Dickey in the stomach.
Police reports indicate that Dickey fled to the bathroom to avoid Luckett, who pursued her and continued to stabbed her in the stomach. When Dickey escaped from the bathroom, Luckett allegedly grabbed Dickey, knocked her down, and continued to stab and choke her. Luckett then left the scene after stealing Dickey’s smartphone, debit card, and automobile.
Luckett resided in the 0-100 block of W. 114th Street in Chicago.
