7 KILLED, 30 WOUNDED ACROSS CHICAGO SINCE FRIDAY

CHICAGO – According to Chicago police, on Sunday morning, one person was killed and another was injured in University Village on Chicago’s Near West Side.  A 21-year-old man was standing outdoors in the 1300 block of West Hastings Street around 12:10 a.m. when someone fired rounds from a passing dark-colored car, injuring him in the back.  The victim was pronounce dead at Stroger Hospital.  According to CPD, a 38-year-old lady seated nearby was struck in the jaw and sent to the same hospital where she was in good health.

A man was murdered, and a woman was injured in a South Side Bronzeville restaurant on Sunday morning.  According to CPD, the two were in the 4600 block of South King Drive at 12:20 a.m. when gunfire erupted following an argument between the man and a group of males.  According to CPD, the argument began when someone stepped on the woman’s shoes.

The 25-year-old male was shot in the neck, arm, and chest and was carried to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died as a result of his injuries.  The woman, 27, was shot in the chin and transferred to the same hospital, where she was listed in fair condition, according to CPD.

Saturday afternoon, a 77-year-old concealed-carry license holder shot and killed a would-be robber in Burnside on Chicago’s South Side.  The man was in an open garage in the 500 block of East 89th Street at 12:20 p.m. when a vehicle drew up in the alley and an armed individual exited, demanding his belongings, according to CPD.  According to authorities, the man then shot at the would-be thief, mortally wounding him in the head and chest.  According to CPD, the man had a valid concealed-carry license.

Another man was murdered while driving in the West Englewood neighborhood on Friday night.

The 29-year-old was driving in the 2100 block of West 71st Street at 6 p.m. when two people in the vehicle behind him began firing, according to CPD.  A shot was fired through the rear window of his vehicle, striking the victim in the back of the head.  The victim was identified as Reginald Benson.

According to CPD, another man, 36, was murdered after a confrontation over a car blocking his garage in Belmont Central on the Northwest Side.  The victim and another man were arguing about the suspect’s truck obstructing his garage in the 2600 block of North Mobile Avenue around 9:50 p.m.  The gunman assaulted the victim and then shot him in the back before driving away.  The victim was identified as Karl Washington.

A sixth man, 21, was murdered in South Austin on the West Side.  The victim’s torso was riddle with bullets outside in the 5200 block of West Adams Street at 11:50 p.m., according to CPD.

He was transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Saturday morning, a man, 31, was found fatally shot in Little Village on the West Side.  The victim was discovered lifeless with gunshot wounds to his head and body in the 2600 block of South Keeler Avenue at 3:30 a.m.  He was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died, according to CPD.
