LINCOLN, IL — The American Legion Post #263 will host replica of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on September 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1740 5th Street, Lincoln, IL. This event is open to the public at no cost. The Abraham Lincoln National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter is celebrating its 125th anniversary with this exhibit.
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a memorial to deceased United States service members whose remains have yet to be identified. It can be found in the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, USA. The “Unknown” of World War I received the Medal of Honor, the Victoria Cross, and several other foreign nations’ highest service awards. The United States Unknowns who were buried received the Medal of Honor, which was presented to them by the presidents of the United States who presided over their funerals.
