DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Hanover Park Chief of Police Michael Menough announced today that a Glendale Heights man has been charged with first-degree murder following an altercation at a Hanover Park residence earlier this month. Richard Goodwin, 55 (d.o.b. 10/27/1965) of the 1200 block of Raleigh Court, appeared at a bond hearing this morning where Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh set bond at $500,000 full cash in accordance with a previously issued arrest warrant. Goodwin has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder and two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, a Class X Felony.
On August 2, 2021, at approximately 7:47 p.m., Hanover Park police officers were dispatched to Pebblebeach Drive for a gunshot victim. As officers responded to the scene, a second call came for another gunshot victim, later identified as Marek Krywko, at the same location. Upon their arrival, officers located the initial victim outside the residence with a gunshot wound to her left thigh. Inside the residence, officers found Marek Krywko with a gunshot wound to his left thigh striking his femoral artery. First aid was administered to both victims, but Krywko remained unresponsive and was transported to a local hospital for medical attention. He was pronounced deceased a short time later. It is alleged that Goodwin and two females were at the residence to purchase marijuana from Krywko. It is alleged that when the female gave Goodwin a bottle of water, Goodwin shot her. It is further alleged that Goodwin then shot Krywko before fleeing the scene with the two female subjects. Yesterday, a $500,000 full cash arrest warrant was issued for Goodwin. He was taken into custody on August 25, 2021, from his home without incident.
“I commend the Hanover Park Police Department for their efforts in the identification and apprehension of the suspect in this case,” Berlin said. “I also thank DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick and his office for their exceptional work on this case as well as the Naperville and Carol Stream Police Departments and investigators from the DuPage M.E.R.I.T. Major Crimes Unit for their assistance in this investigation. To the family and friends of Mr. Krywko, I offer my condolences as they mourn this senseless loss of life. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Louisa Nuckolls and Helen Kapas for their efforts in securing charges against Mr. Goodwin.”
“I would like to recognize the hard work and collaborative efforts of Hanover Park Police Officers, members of the DuPage M.E.R.I.T. Major Crimes Unit, and the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office in bringing this investigation to a successful conclusion,” said Hanover Park Police Chief Michael Menough. “While this arrest cannot erase the loss of Mr. Krywko, my hope is that the charging of Mr. Goodwin will bring Mr. Krywko’s family some comfort as they grieve.”
Goodwin’s next court appearance is scheduled for September 17, 2021, for arraignment in front of Judge O’Hallaren Walsh.
