CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer was killed and another seriously injured in a shooting Saturday night in the South Side neighborhood of West Englewood.
The two officers were conducting a traffic stop near the intersection of 63rd Street and Bell Avenue at around 9:08 p.m. when shots were fired at them, striking a female officer and a male officer. Both officers were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where the female officer, 29, died as a result of her injuries. According to hospital sources, the male officer is in critical condition.
Two offenders were apprehended, and a weapon was recovered, according to CPD. One of the perpetrators was also hit by gunfire and taken to Christ Hospital. Police in Chicago are still looking for a third offender.
