CHICAGO — Since Friday night, twenty-three people have been shot, three of them fatally, in Chicago, including a 17-year-old teenager.
A man was fatally shot Friday in South Shore in the weekend’s first known fatal attack.
The victim was near the sidewalk in the 7000 block of South Merrill Avenue at 7:30 p.m. when someone opened fire, striking him multiple times, according to Chicago police. Police said the individual, whose age was not immediately disclosed, was declared dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center. His identity has not been revealed.
On Saturday, a man was killed in a drive-by shooting on Austin’s Northwest Side. About 1:15 a.m., the 37-year-old was standing on the sidewalk with a group of individuals in the 1700 block of North Moody Avenue when someone inside a blue-colored vehicle fired shots, according to CPD. The victim was shot in the head and rushed to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead.
Simultaneously, a teen boy was slain and another was critically injured in a shooting in Englewood on Chicago’s South Side. The teens, ages 15 and 17, were in the backyard of a home in the 6800 block of South Peoria Street at 1:15 a.m. when someone opened fire, according to CPD. The 17-year-old was shot in the chest and transferred to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The 15-year-old was hit in the stomach and sent to the same hospital in critical condition, according to authorities.
In a nonfatal gunshot, two individuals were injured, one seriously, in Chatham on the South Side on Friday. They were on the sidewalk in the 700 block of East 79th Street around 9:10 p.m. when a white SUV opened fire, according to CPD. A 33-year-old man was injured in the chest and hand. In critical condition, he was transferred to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
The other male, 20, was carried to the same hospital in fair condition with a gunshot wound to his hand.
Saturday in the Englewood neighborhood, two people were shot, one of whom was a 17-year-old teenager. The couple was standing in the street in the 7100 block of South Ada Street around 12:45 a.m. when someone inside a black vehicle fired shots, according to CPD. The 17-year-old teenager was struck in the leg and was brought to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.
A 21-year-old male was also wounded in the leg and sent to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.
Last weekend in Chicago, sixty individuals were shot, ten of whom died.
