LOS ANGELES — Larry Elder, a conservative talk show host, has announced his intention to run for governor of California in the September recall election.
Elder announced his candidacy on Monday in a press release and video.
“I am running for governor because California’s decline is not the fault of its people.
Our government is to blame for the Golden State’s demise . . . both students and parents are barred from entering our schools. Our streets are no longer safe from rising violent crime or the disaster that is rising homelessness. It’s time to tell the truth, we’ve got a state to save.” he declared.
Elder joins a list of Republican candidates that includes Caitlyn Jenner, a former Olympic gold medalist, and Doug Ose, a former U.S. representative from California.
State elections officials confirmed late last month that Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom would face a recall election on September 14.
After filing the necessary paperwork, Elder will formally launch his campaign outside the Los Angeles County Registrar on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
