CHICAGO – The nearly century-old Lake View bowling alley Southport Lanes is closing for good, however you can still own a piece of its history.

The coronavirus pandemic has forced the closure of Southport Lanes since September.  A spokesperson for the building’s owners said it was a difficult decision, but the owners do not expect the business to recover anytime soon, so the assets of the building will be auctioned off.

The entire interior, including pool tables, bowling equipment, the 1922 bar, the famous Southport Lanes sign, and exterior signage, will be available for purchase through an online auction.  Residents of Lakeview who frequented the bowling alley and brought their families say the news is devastating.

Many people hope to preserve a piece of the city’s history so that the legacy can live on.

An auction will be held from July 13 to July 20.
