TERRE HAUTE, IN — A police officer in western Indiana was shot and killed near a federal building on Wednesday, just hours after a Chicago officer and two federal agents were shot while working undercover.

Terre Haute Police Department Sgt. Ryan Adamson confirmed the officer’s death on Twitter.

The officer’s name has not been released because the officer’s family has not been notified.

The shooting happened outside a federal office building behind the Vigo County Courthouse, according to the Tribune-Star.

Around 5:50 a.m., one Chicago police officer and two undercover Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agents were shot, according to Chicago authorities.

According to CPD, the three officers were in the same unmarked undercover vehicle attempting to enter the freeway when they were shot from the street.
