ZILWAUKEE, MI — The CDC is looking into why a 13-year-old Michigan boy died in his sleep after receiving his second COVID-19 vaccine dose.

Jacob Clynick is described by health officials as a healthy boy who has no underlying medical conditions.

On June 13, his aunt Tammy Burages told the Detroit Free Press that he received his second dose of the Pfizer vaccine at a Walgreens in Zilwaukee, MI.  He also experienced the usual side effects after his second shot. Clynick stated that he was tired and that he had a fever.  Clynick also had a minor stomach ache, which his parents said did not appear to be serious.

An autopsy was performed by the medical examiner, but the cause of death was not determined.  According to Burages, preliminary autopsy findings suggest Jacob’s heart was enlarged when he died and that there was fluid around his heart.

The contract medical examiner for Saginaw County, the Michigan Institute of Forensic Science and Medicine, would not confirm those preliminary findings to the Detroit Free Press.

The investigation has now been turned over to the CDC at the federal level, according to the medical director of the Saginaw County Health Department, who spoke to the Detroit Free Press in a statement.
