UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO STUDENT DIES AFTER BEING SHOT ON GREEN LINE

CHICAGO — After being shot riding the CTA Green Line train in Washington Park on the South Side Thursday evening, a University of Chicago student died Sunday.

Paramedics reached Max Solomon Lewis, 22, approximately 6 p.m. at a Green Line station in the 300 block of East 51st Street, according to CPD.  He was wounded in the neck and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.  On Sunday, Lewis died of his injuries.

According to CPD, the bullet appeared to have struck the train’s glass and Lewis was not the intended target.  No arrests have been made.

Lewis, a third-year University of Chicago student.  Lewis was a double major in economics and computer science, treasurer of the Promontory Investment Research RSO, president of the fraternity AEPi, and prominent in the student community on campus.

University authorities asked anyone with information to contact Chicago police or the University of Chicago police.
