CHICAGO — Hundreds of people were arrested by Chicago police on Sunday night as a large group began taking over the Loop, setting off fireworks and dancing on police cars. Reports indicate the chaos started at Wabash and Washington injuring two officers.
According to CPD, 61 people were arrested, the majority of whom were young adults and minors charged with battery, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
CPD reports individuals in the crowd were throwing bottle rockets at officers, jumping on police cars, and refusing to disperse.
During a scuffle with an offender, one officer was hit in the ear with a bottle rocket and another sustained an ankle injury.
No comment from the Mayor.
