ATLANTA – Georgia authorities are trying to locate an African serval a woman was awoken by the cat when it jumped on her bed.

Kristine Frank was asleep at her home in the Historic Bookhaven neighborhood of Atlanta Wednesday when she was awakened by an feline presence in her bed.

Frank believes the feline entered the home when Frank’s husband left the door open after letting their dog out.

Frank’s husband managed to usher the large cat out of the house.  The Georgia Department of Natural Resources believes the African servals was kept as an illegal pet by a local resident.  There have been several sightings in the neighborhood over recent days.

Although native to Africa, servals are legal to keep as exotic pets in the state of Georgia, but owners are required to obtain permits.
