ANOTHER WEEKEND BEGINS: 32 SHOT, 4 FATALLY IN CHICAGO

CHICAGO – Four people were killed and 28 others were injured, including a man killed in a drive-by in West Garfield Park.

The 25-year-old was standing on the porch in the 4000 block of West Van Buren Street at 4:15 p.m. when a car drove by spraying bullets shooting the victim in the head.  He was declared dead on scene.

In South Shore, a man was shot in the head outside an apartment building in the 6800 block of South Ridgeland Avenue around 8:25 a.m.  The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Donzell Bailey.

In Gage Park on the Southwest Side, a 29-year-old man was found fatally shot in the face in a car

in the 5400 block of South Artesian Avenue.  The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Melvin Ajtun.

In Roseland, on the Far South Side, a woman was killed, and an 8-year-old girl and another woman were injured.  The two women were sitting on the porch of a home in the 11300 block of South Wentworth Avenue around 1:10 a.m. when a gunman in a white Nissan stepped out and fired at them.

Two men were shot in a drive-by in Back of the Yards on the South Side.  They were standing in a gangway in the 5300 block of South Hoyne Avenue around 11:30 p.m. when someone drove past in the alley and started shooting.  A 20-year-old man was hit in the foot, while a 35-year-old was hit in the leg.

Two people are in critical condition after their car was caught in the crossfire of a shootout on the West Side’s East Garfield Park.  About 10 p.m., two men and a woman were driving north on California Avenue, and before turning north onto Van Buren Street, their vehicle drove in between two vehicles shooting at each other, according to police.

In a mass shooting in Englewood, on Chicago’s South Side, a 1-month-old girl was shot in the head.  According to police, three males jumped out of a black Jeep in the 6500 block of South Halsted Street around 8:15 p.m. and began shooting in several directions.  The trio then got back into the car and drove down 66th Street.

A 9-year-old girl was critically shot in the head in the 800 block of East 79th Street when a car approached and someone inside opened fire.
