DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Hinsdale Chief of Police Brian King announced that on June 16, 2021, a second juvenile charged with burglary and theft of a high-end vehicle from two Hinsdale auto dealerships will be detained until at least his next court date of June 23, 2021. The juvenile, who is fifteen years-old, has been charged with six counts of Armed Violence (Class X Felony), three counts of Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle (Class 1 Felony), two counts of Burglary (Class 2 Felony), one count of Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle (Class 2 Felony) and two counts of Criminal Damage to Property (Class 4 Felony).

On May 17, 2021, at approximately 2:21 a.m., Hinsdale Police Department patrol units responded to an activated burglar alarm at Land Rover/Jaguar of Hinsdale Auto Dealership, 336 E. Ogden Avenue. Upon their arrival, officers found a broken window in an overhead garage door with glass inside. While investigating at the Land Rover/Jaguar dealership, officers were dispatched to another alarm at Continental Motor Sports, 420 E. Ogden Avenue. At Continental Motor Sports, officers found a broken window at the dealership and a running 2018 red Ferrari convertible, valued at more than $250,000, driven outside of the service bay into the rear lot allegedly by the juvenile. It is alleged that when officers encountered another individual with a crowbar next to the padlock on the rear gate, the individual ran to and entered a nearby car and fled the scene. It is alleged that a Hinsdale squad car made contact with the fleeing vehicle and disabled it at which time three individuals fled the vehicle on foot. It is further alleged that one of the fleeing men exited the vehicle with a gun in his hand. After a brief foot pursuit, this individual and another individual, RaJohn Stewart, 24 (d.o.b. 1/9/1997) of the 100 block of Williamsburg Road, Country Club Hills, were taken into custody. Following a search of the area, officers located a 9 mm pistol and a thirty-round extended 9 mm magazine. It is further alleged that a fourth individual was in the rear lot of Continental Motor Sports and fled on foot when the officers arrived. An investigation into the matter also found that the vehicle in which the men allegedly fled the scene was reported stolen out of Chicago on May 9, 2021. The juvenile was taken into custody on June 15, 2021, at approximately 2:20 p.m. from a residence in Chicago. An investigation into the matter continues. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the Hinsdale Police Department at (630) 789-7089.

“At the young age of fifteen, the juvenile charged in this case is now facing multiple serious felony offenses,” Berlin said. “The identification and apprehension of this juvenile demonstrates the Hinsdale Police Department’s commitment to seeing a case through from beginning to end. I have no doubt that thanks to their efforts anyone allegedly involved in this crime will be held accountable. I would like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Alyssa Rabulinski for her efforts in preparing strong cases against these defendants.”

“The identification and arrest of the individuals responsible for these crimes is a priority for the Hinsdale Police Department, King said. “We appreciate the partnership and support we receive from the DuPage County States Attorney’s office.”

On May 18, 2021, Stewart appeared at a bond hearing where bond was set at $250,000 with 10% to apply. He posted $25,000, or 10%, the same day and was released from custody. His next court date is scheduled for June 23, 2021. The first juvenile, from Cook County, allegedly involved in the crime remains in custody.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendants’ guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
