CHICAGO — Since Friday night, at least 42 people have been shot and eight murdered, including a 15year-old boy killed in Lawndale on the West Side. No comment from Mayor Lightfoot.
According to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, Dajon Gater was on a front porch in the 3900 block of West Lexington Street when two males approached and started firing shots at him around 11:50 p.m. on Friday. Gater was shot in the head and rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
In West Garfield Park, a man was shot and killed early Sunday. CPD sources said the 49-year-old was walking in the first block of North Kilbourn Avenue around 12:15 a.m. when a man exited a silver car and started firing bullets. The victim was hit several times in the face and neck and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man was murdered and two others injured in a shooting in Washington Park on Saturday night. The three were standing on the sidewalk in the 5500 block of South Michigan Avenue around 7:30 p.m.
when people in a gray Jeep and a blue Acura opened fire, according to CPD.
According to investigators, a 46-year-old man was shot in the back and transported to the University of Chicago, where he was pronounced dead.
A 30-year-old man was shot in the head and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. A third male, 50, was shot in the arm but was treated and released at the same hospital.
Two people were murdered in an attack in West Garfield Park early Saturday morning. The men were standing outside in the 4000 block of West Wilcox Street around 2 a.m. when a person approached them on foot and fired bullets. According to CPD, one man, 24, was shot in the head, abdomen, stomach, and leg. He was taken to Loretto Hospital and pronounced dead. Investigators named Haniff Collins as the gunmen. The second man, 29, was hit in the face, torso, and arm and was taken to Stroger Hospital and pronounced dead. CPD named Derrick McCampbell as the other gunmen.
A man was shot on the West Side’s Eisenhower Expressway just hours before. Illinois State Police said the 27-year-old was westbound on Interstate 290 on the ramp to Austin Boulevard at 12:07 a.m. when shots were fired from another car. The victim was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Following an altercation at an East Garfield Park convenience store on Friday night, two people were fatally shot. A man was in an altercation with a 23-year-old woman in the 500 block of North Kedzie Avenue around 10:25 p.m. when he started shooting at her and an 18-year-old man she was with, according to CPD. The woman was shot in the chest and taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The 18-year-old victim was shot in the chest and leg several times and taken to Norwegian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Last weekend 48 people were shot including a 2-year-old girl, a 13-year-old teen, and two CPD officers.
Mayor Lightfoot declined comment and appears to be more concerned about limiting reporters to her two-year anniversary as a failed mayor.
