Cooking with Anatole, The Chicago Times
May 1, 2021
This morning mon ami, we cook one of the breakfasts favoris for a sunny Saturday morning: Old-Fashioned Flannel Cakes. This recette comes from Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking published by the Yorkraft, Inc.
Mon ami, let us prepare by gathering the following ingrédients:
2 cup flour
2 cup milk
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 eggs, separated
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoon melted butter
For the best results follow these directions:
- Sift together in a bowl the flour, salt and baking powder.
- Beat the egg yolks and add the milk.
- Pour milk mixture slowly into the dry ingredients and beat to a smooth batter.
- Add the melted butter then fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.
- Bake on hot griddle.
Anatole’s Critique:
Par excellence, mon ami! Anatole found the cakes délicieux especially topped with beurre and maple syrup. Hélas magnifique! Anatole dit au revoir.
