CHICAGO — Valentine’s Day murder suspect Calvin Jones was charged with the murder of Pierre Anderson after his cell phone was found at the scene of the Austin neighborhood murder in the 5900 block of West Bloomington Avenue. Chicago Police confirmed braggadocious texts found on Jones’ cell phone matched his statements to police about a “cheat code” magazine that allowed for extra 9mm rounds.
According to prosecutors, evidence from the cell phone confirmed Jones rented a Chevrolet Impala from Hertz that matched the car captured on surveillance video. According to CPD sources, Jones had rented the Impala in his name and returned it several days after the murder. Upon inspecting the Impala, investigators discovered 9mm shells matching the 23 shells scattered about the murder scene.
According to prosecutors, no eyewitnesses have come forward to identify Jones as the shooter, thus opening the arguments by Jones’ defense team that anyone could have used his unlocked cell phone and rented Impala.
Murder victim Pierre Anderson was in town for a family funeral and was shot twice in the back after Jones allegedly discharged 24 rounds.
Jones is currently being held without bail and is expected back in court on March 23.
